Encuesta: Arcangel
Nominees for the Billboard Latin Music Awards were announced on Wednesday afternoon, with a mix of reggaeton, pop, and rock artists dominating the top categories.
The awards, which will be broadcast live on Telemundo at 7 p.m. April 10 from the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, honor the best selling Latin albums and most played songs on Latin radio, according to Billboard Magazine charts. As such they're mostly an indication of commercial and popular success rather than artistic innovation.
Aventura, the powerhouse heartthrob pop-bachata quartet, is a finalist in six categories, including Hot Latin Song of the Year and Tropical Album of the Year, Duo or Group. Newcomers Camila, a young Mexican pop-rock quartet with a hip look and engaging songs, were finalists in three categories, including Latin Album of the Year. In reggaeton, Daddy Yankee and duo Wisin y Yandel are battling for boasting rights, as nominees in three categories each. Merengue veteran and multiple Latin Grammy winner Juan Luis Guerra is a five-time nominee, including Hot Latin Songs Artist of the Year.
